Orienteering II – Godley Head
Well this morning, we adventured out to under take our second orienteering excursion. The snowed had stopped the night before, and this morning was clear and bright. So I left the house this morning, with snow still on my car, but with a slight excitement that I we would be trekking through the hills with snow on the ground. Unfortunately, Godley head didn’t get much snow, and most had melted by the time we got there.
There were heaps more people there this time than the last one we went to. Heaps of kids and families as well. If you have kids, I think this is a excellent activity to get them to do. There’s a couple of short courses that they can do, and even some do the longer ones, we got overtaken by a kid on our course that must have been about 10. Parents and kids can do it together, I just think it would have been something I would have really have loved doing when I was a kid.
Well the course was longer than the last but less stations to find. Either the stations were easier to find or we have got better at reading the map (probably a bit of both), but we only had trouble finding one station, and I will say that was because there was a fence that didn’t appear on the map. The terrain was heaps harder, lots of steep rough downhill, and clambering up hill. I think my down hill ability has got worse rather than better since the coast. I really need to practice going downhill. So overall took us 1.5hrs, almost 30min quicker than last time.
So it was a bit tougher and scary than last time, but we still had fun. Took turns with the navigation, so hopefully we will be OK at it for the rogaine next weekend. Quite looking forward to the rogaine, lets hope it doesn’t rain next weekend.
FYI. I have noticed recently that my blogs have been having a bit of a negative outlook to life at the moment. Maybe its the whole winter thing. But will endeavor to get a bit more positive. Its not like me to be so negative about things, and is not my current general disposition.
Oh and thinking might call kayak Tomsk, after sporting Womble, or perhaps Bungo, just cause it rolls of the tounge better

Ohhh I like the names for your kayak! They are both very cool!! It was fun today eh
I’m quite impressed by how much better we were than last time.
I hear adventure racing calling for you two!
