Tour De France … And I almost thought it was a mircle.

I’ll start with the almost miracle first …

When I get sick, I get SICK, when I got my sore throat on Sunday morning, I thought well this is it, I was in for 2 -4 days of suffering and general un-wellness. But this just doesn’t seem to have happened, I made it through yesterday with only a few sneezes and sniffles. Today I woke up feeling mostly OK. Went to work for a couple of hours, but my head began to feel like cotton wool, and couldn’t concentrate, so I decided best to go home and get some rest. So here I am on the couch, blankey over me, kitty trying to snuggle in, and interupt my typing and laptop perched on my knees. But the normal cold virus suffering has not come out, I will just have to call it a almost miracle.

Ok, now I will get to the true point of this post… Tour De France and more specifically the fansty Tour de France game. Helen has once again sent us the list of riders to choose from. Now I kinda follow cycling, I know the big names on the list. But I don’t have a clue really who the heck most of these guys are, and if they are going to contribute to my overall points in this game. This game does make following the tour de france a whole lot more interesting, and you learn about the riders as you go along. The trouble, the names I learnt from last year as the ones to beat, are not on list for this year… oh dear that’s a quandry.

This is the time of the year that I wish I have sky, so I can watch it. But I have got other means (for which I shall not mention, as totally illegal and I don’t want the cops knocking on my door). And this means I get the coverage the afternoon after the night before, but it is more in depth to anything that sky provides us. Sorry, I think I have got off track…Julian Dean

… back to the fantasy game. So, choosing the riders, I’ll just have to pick Julian Dean, because he’s the only Kiwi, and he deserves my support and wishful thinking, even if it is just aRobbie Mckewen little game that is played by a few back home. Plus you never know as the primary sprinter in the team he might have a higher chance of getting the sprint finishers points. The other sprinter… I’m thinking Robbie, I like Robbie, the guy that appears out of nowhere, but he is getting on a bit…

The GC is a tricky one, and where I will likely loose or win the game. I have to go with Cadel, he’s the most expensive as the favorite, and the favorite is unlikely to win, but I like him. In his quite Cadel Evansway he goes about his work, and hopefully he’s got a decent team around to support him. Plus I think he’s less likely to be on drugs. Yes I pick on the more morally correct riders, I won’t pick them if I thought they were cheats. Of course in this sport, you never know who would be fooling you… So that’s three down. And they are all Kiwi’s and ozzies, so maybe it should be the down under team and I keep with that theme for the next selections…

The climbers… I don’t have a clue who any of these guys are except for Carlos Sastre (but he’s from spain, I think, well its the thought that counts). So I’ll pick him and take a stab in the dark at the other??? Then the domestiques, this is a real wild stab in the dark. Should I pick the top riders from the team that is likely to have the GC winner. I think that is probably the best was to go, as that means they are more likely to finish near the top, when the time comes. But also theres the problem that they will f*&k them selves getting the GC guy to the front that they may just fall down to the back. That’s the trouble with this game, we are picking the individuals, but there results, will be determined by there team strategy, so you gotta take that into account when picking.Carlos Sastre

I think I am over thinking this. Just take a random stab in the dark and see how I go. Here come the down under devils Helen.. lets see how they do.

P.S. perhaps we could create another game, how many get kicked out this year for cheating? I’m going with 2… 1 is bound to be the yellow jersey leader at some stage, where the press or who ever has kept quite about it, until they were in front so they can make it much more dramatic as they are pulled from the race and questioned by the police.

Funny, my cold a week or two ago didn’t come to anything either. I felt a bit blurky for a day or so, but it never developed into a full-blown-anything. Good isn’t it!!

    Hope you get better soon!
I have the same trouble with TdF – I just pick random names and hope they do ok. Wish I had the knowledge of people like Geoff & Nades when picking my team. Oh well, someone has to come last I guess!!
