Just a person… sometimes thats all you really want
These days it seems like you could almost go through the airport without getting help from anyone. Soon I am sure they will get rid of the pilots… I am sure all you need is a remote control.
And stewards and just have these little robotic screens on wheels. With “Please select what you would like a: vege crips b: cookie c: lollies”. But if you accidentally select the wrong option then be warned you will either be stuck with it, or you’ll have to restart the whole process all over again.
Well to say I don’t sometimes enjoy the new self serve check in would be a lie. It is efficient and fast. But really what were the designers thinking! You check in it asks in a something about having dangerous goods. You select the wrong answer, because it was worded the wrong way around and you really aren’t paying attention. Then the system boots you out. You have to find some one to help you and then you have to end up going through the whole thing again.
But really my worse bug bear in the self service department is the dam parking pay machines. Theres a long line to them. 2 of them are not accepting eftpos or credit cards. There is no one around to help. Theres nothing, what happens if the other 2 don’t work are we going to be stuck in the car park all night? Do I have to walk all the way back to the airport find a ATM and get the cash. But then if that is to happen, the machine probably broken and want accept the cash.
Been there plenty of times waiting in line for people who’ve been unsuccessful in paying their parking fees. Very very frustrating. They’re on the phone and eventually are told someone will come and help.
I’m sure they feel foolish, or that there’s something wrong with their credit or their relationship with their bank.
But really, if you accept credit card, then jolly well accept it.
Thankfully we’ve only been caught a couple of times with the machine not accepting credit card and have reverted to the debit card.
Oh, and the self service checkouts I love too, but blow me down if they don’t all call a pizza bun something different.
Now is this the place that calls it a speciality bread, pizza bun, gourmet pizza bun. I swear to God I went through all the options I could think of and when I was at my wits end the girl who probably stood amused by my fruitless efforts finally came to see if she could help, as I selected the very last and least possible option.
Oh I KNOW – those darn parking machines!! I also find myself panicking that I’m not going to return to my car in time to get out, and I’ll end up having to pay again!
Well I admit to loving the self serve checkouts. Its is great not having to talk to anyone….
Isn’t there someone up at the exit gates? There used to be. Long walk I know but they can sort you. I had to go inside and get some cash using my eftpos card once – had to buy something so I could get cash! But then discovered this guy up at the gates!
I hate the dangerous goods question. You answer yes to “I packed my own bags” so the “right” answer to the next question should be yes too!
